One Perfect Day | Un día perfecto

A telenovela farce

A hilarious portrait of a family in crisis on a big wedding day - wonderfully realized through the much loved genre of the telenovela.

Alba and Evan think they’re getting the picture perfect Colombian wedding but when the groom is swapped with an evil twin by a long lost sister bent on revenge, the special day falls into chaos, testing the family’s strength. The play is full of humour and heart; It’s a joyous and mischievous marriage between Colombian wedding traditions, the telenovela genre and the ceremony of attending the theatre.

Written for a cast of seven, the script provides opportunities for Latinx, Global Majority and Queer performers to take on playful, complex roles. The project is bilingual (English and Spanish) and centers these communities’ joy, laughter and escapism.

Development History

The script has had a rehearsed reading, a workshop exploring a film/theatre hybrid staging, and a playful reimagining as a TikTok telenovela. It was a shortlist nominee for the RBC Emerging Playwright Award and was most recently performed at Omnibus Theatre, directed by Miguel Torres Umba, as part of Untold Collective’s 2025 LATINX Scratch Night.
